LS-CD500 Geotextile Cone Drop Tester

Configured for laboratory and production workflows

Geotextile cone drop tester with a 500 mm drop height, 150 mm specimen opening and 1 kg cone for dynamic perforation testing and graduated hole measurement.

Drop Height
500 ± 2 mm
Cone tip to specimen
Clamp Opening
150 ± 0.5 mm
Internal diameter
Drop Cone
1,000 ± 5 g
45° included angle
Hole Measurement
5–50 mm
Graduated measuring cone

Defined Falling-Cone Geometry

A 45° cone with a total mass of 1,000 ± 5 g is released from 500 ± 2 mm above the specimen. Confirm alignment and release operation during setup.

Circular Specimen Clamp

The 150 ± 0.5 mm opening supports a horizontally clamped specimen. Consistent clamping helps avoid folds, unintended pretension and specimen slippage.

Graduated Hole Measurement

A separate 600 ± 5 g measuring cone covers a listed 5–50 mm range. Record hole measurements under the selected method and retain individual specimen results.

Laboratory Material Comparison

Compare geotextile response under consistent test conditions alongside the other mechanical and physical properties required by the material specification.

Application & Selection Guide

Testing Method

Geotextile dynamic perforation by the cone drop method

The cone drop method measures the damage produced by a defined falling cone on a clamped specimen. A graduated measuring cone is used to determine the resulting hole size. A smaller hole indicates greater resistance within comparable test conditions. The result is not a puncture force, a tensile strength or a direct prediction of every installation condition.

ISO 13433 and edition verification

ISO 13433:2025 is the current published edition of the dynamic perforation method and replaces the 2006 edition. Compatibility of the LS-CD500 with the 2025 edition has not been established for this listing. Specify your required edition so cone geometry, release, measurement and verification documentation can be reviewed before ordering.

Prepare a complete quotation request

Include the material type and construction, expected thickness, standard edition, daily specimen count and destination. Request the supply list for the frame, clamp, drop cone and measuring cone, together with release instructions, operator protection and dimensional and mass verification requirements.

Typical cone drop test workflow

  1. 1.Select and condition representative specimens according to the agreed method.
  2. 2.Clamp a specimen flat and centered, avoiding folds and unintended pretension.
  3. 3.Verify the cone, drop height and release setup, then carry out the test using the supplied operating instructions.
  4. 4.Measure the resulting hole with the measuring cone and report individual and summary results as required by the method.
Technical FAQ

Does LS-CD500 claim compliance with ISO 13433:2025?

No edition-specific compliance is claimed in this listing. ISO 13433 is the relevant cone drop method, but the requested edition and verification scope must be confirmed against the supplied apparatus before ordering.

Is this a soil cone penetrometer or DCP?

No. This apparatus drops a cone onto a clamped geotextile specimen and measures the resulting hole. Soil cone penetrometers and dynamic cone penetrometers measure soil penetration using different apparatus and procedures.

Can it replace a CBR static puncture tester?

No. CBR static puncture measures the force required to push a plunger through the specimen. The cone drop test measures perforation after a falling-cone impact; the results are not interchangeable.

Does it include automatic force measurement or report software?

This configuration uses graduated hole measurement. Automatic load measurement, digital acquisition and report software are not specified.

Can all geosynthetics be tested with the same method?

Confirm applicability for the exact product. Geogrids, geocomposites and barriers can behave differently from continuous geotextile specimens. Use the material specification and the selected standard to define suitability and reporting.
