Frequently Asked Questions

No. Electromagnetic readings are affected by bar spacing, overlapping reinforcement, bar orientation, nearby metal, cover depth, and surface geometry. Diameter is generally an estimate under suitable conditions; verification against drawings, exposed locations, or calibration blocks may be required.

Half-cell potential indicates corrosion probability and spatial gradients, not corrosion rate or steel section loss. Moisture, oxygen availability, cover thickness, resistivity, electrical continuity, reference-electrode condition, and surface preparation must be considered with complementary inspection data.

It is a localized destructive or semi-destructive test because a bonded dolly is pulled from the surface and may remove coating, repair material, or concrete. The test area is small and can normally be repaired after documentation.
